PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team fell to John Carroll, 7-1, in their second meeting of the Snowbird Classic on Thursday, March 5, 2009. The Beavers now stand 3-4, while the Blue Steaks improved to 5-1 this season.

The lone Bluffton run was scored by Stephen Torres (Lima/Juan Diego) in the bottom of the fifth inning. After being walked and moving to second on a single by infielder Corey Conn (London), he went to third on a wild pitch. Torres raced to the plate when David Riddle (Loveland/Milford) grounded out.

John Carroll tallied 11 hits and seven runs off starting pitcher James Hausman (Milford). Relief pitcher Tyler Stephenson (Sprinfield/Northwestern) fanned two batters in two innings of scoreless relief.

Cody McPherson (Northwood/Millbury Lake) went 2-for-3 in the contest, while both Conn and freshman outfielder Nick Broyles (Toledo/Whitmer) collected hits in the loss.

The Beavers will return to action on Friday, March 6, when Bluffton faces Coach Grandey's alma mater, Muskingum College, at 9 a.m. and Heidelberg at noon. Both games are slated for the North County Park in Port Charlotte, Florida.
