Clark and Reynolds power Beavers to 10-3 win over Rivier

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team knocked off Rivier University 10-3 on Sunday, March 3, in their second game of the Gene Cusic Classic. Bluffton improved to 2-0 on the season, while Rivier stands 0-2.

A Colin Gregory (Fremont/Clyde) homer put the Beavers up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Jacob Latkofsky (Temperance,MI/Ida) followed with a one-out double that sent Lenny Winiarski (Cincinnati/LaSalle) home for a 2-0 lead heading to the second frame. The Beavers added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth when Duncan singled to center, making it 4-0 Bluffton.

In the bottom half of the seventh, junior Parker Reynolds (Avon) piled on with a two-run blast to left field that which put the Beavers up 8-1 on Rivier. Bluffton would all but seal the victory in the eighth when Reynolds singled up the middle, plating two more for the comfortable 10-1 lead. Rivier came up with two in the ninth, but the Beavers early onslaught was too much. 

Reynolds went 2-of-4 with four RBI, while Winiarski finished 2-of-3 with two runs scored. Duncan went 2-of-4 and also plated two in the Beaver victory. 

Junior Cam Clark (Cairo/Bath) collected the win, giving up just one run in six innings of work on the hill. He fanned nine and walked two while allowing just three hits. Freshman Zane Martin (Ottoville), Dennis Szalai (LaGrange/Keystone) and Jordan Stutzman (Millersburg/West Holmes) would combine for three innings of releif, giving up two hits and two runs. 

Bluffton is back in action on Monday, March 4, when the Beavers take on Moravian at 2 p.m. before matching up with Ohio rival Otterbein University at 5:30 p.m.
