Beavers ready to hit the links in 2018

August 14, 2018

Head Coach Adam Craig enters his second season as coach of the Bluffton men's and women's golf teams. As the return to the course inches closer, the anticipation for the second-year program builds.

The men's team is returning four letterwinners from the inaugural season, including sophomores Takoda Pratt and Anthony Mungia, who appeared in every tournament for the Beavers last season. Also returning for the Beavers are Michael Fimiani and Julian LaVallee.

"I know each of our returners took a lot away from last season and all have become leaders. They showed immense improvement from the first to final shot in the 17-18 season. Getting the experience is what they needed. They know what it takes now and have put in hard work over the summer. I am very excited to see the improvement they have made."

In addition to the already young team the Beavers will add five freshman. Of the five, three were local standouts in Ohio: James Hudson (Bellefontaine), Spencer Daniels (Ashland), and Nick Offenburger (Lexington). Also joining the team from out of state are Carter Mumbower (Newport, MI) and Dylan Warwick (Griffin, GA).

Coach Craig had this to say about the men's team. "I am really excited about the addition of these five young men. Having a larger team will be great for competition. I feel it will push each and every one on the team to get better every day!"

The Beavers will kick the season off September 1-2 at Ohio Northern. They will make stops in Findlay and Defiance before hosting the Beaver Fall Classic Sept. 22-23. The 2018 edition of the Beaver Fall Classic will feature nine men's teams and nine women's teams. Round one will be played at Bluffton Golf Club with tee times starting at 11:45 AM. Round two will take place at Hidden Creek and has a 9 AM shotgun scheduled. The remaining three events of the fall will include Miami-Hamilton, Mount St. Joseph and the HCAC Preview at Anderson.

The women's team will feature four freshman standouts for the 2018 season. Coming to Bluffton from neighboring cities are Brylee Oberdorf (Clyde) and Abby Bullion (Bellevue). Joining from the south will be Keely Briggs (Franklin) and Kourtney Kretschmar (Greenville).

"These four young ladies are a perfect example of what we are looking for in the women's program. I am really excited to see their progression this fall as they have all put in a ton of work this past summer."

The women will also kick of the season Sept. 1-2 at the Stateline Shootout hosted by Mount St. Joseph. The Beavers will travel to Defiance in back-to-back weeks, and make a stop in Tiffin before hosting the Beaver Fall Classic. They will then close the fall out with two stop at Earlham for the HCAC Preview and the HCAC Championship (Oct. 13-14).
