LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team wrapped up their season on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they faced off with conference foe Transylvania on the road. The Beavers battled in the first half and went into the break down just 1-0, but the Pioneers piled it on in the second period before Bluffton got on the scoreboard, as Transylvania went on to win by a 6-1 count.
Bluffton and Transylvania fought through a scoreless first half for the first 25 minutes before the Pioneers opened things up with a goal by TATE SPIVEY. The Beaver defense was able to hold Transy to just that in the first half, keeping the score 1-0 after 45 minutes of action.
Things got out of hand quickly in the second half when the Pioneers tacked on two goals in the first five minutes, making the score 3-0. With the score 5-0, Bluffton finally found its stride on offense when GRANT STUTZMAN(Sugarcreek/Hiland) pushed one into the back of the net. That would be all the Beavers would get though, as the final score ended up being 6-1 in favor of Transylvania.
Stutzman and JORDAN ANDREWS (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) led Bluffton's offense with two shots apiece. CHRIS WAGLER(Leipsic/Pandora-Gilboa) had three saves in goal for the Beavers.
Bluffton fell to 1-15 overall and 1-8 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action to end the 2013 season. Transylvania improved to 12-4-2 (6-2-1 HCAC) and will be headed to the HCAC tournament next week.
