September 7, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team trimmed a 3-1 halftime deficit to one goal with just over 14 minutes to play, but Wittenberg held on for the 3-2 victory on a rainy Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. The Beavers slipped to 1-2 on the season, while Wittenberg evened its mark at 2-2.

Freshman Dalton Taynor (Troy, Ohio/Miami East) took advantage of an Alex Foster (Howard, Ohio/Mount Vernon) feed, evening the score at 1-1 just over 12 minutes into the match. The home Tigers regrouped, however, and knocked in two more scores in the first 45 minutes for a 3-1 lead at the break.

Sophomore Timothy Murphy (Chesterfield, Twp., MI/L'Anse Creuse) cut the Tiger lead in half with his penalty kick in minute 76, but the visitors were unable to find the equalizer as Wittenberg claimed a 3-2 victory.

The Tigers fashioned a 20-9 edge in shots, including 9-6 on frame. Wittenberg forced four more corner kicks (6-2), while the Beavers chalked up two more fouls (16-14).

Bluffton will kick off its home slate on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Beavers welcome Olivet College for a matchup at the Sears Complex. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
