Olivet downs Bluffton 5-2 in home opener

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Weather moved Bluffton's home opener to the Alumni Field turf as the Beavers welcomed Olivet College on a rainy Saturday, Sept. 8. The Comets went up 3-0 and answered Bluffton's late first half goals with two more in the second half en route to a 5-2 victory over the Beavers. Both teams stand 1-3 after four contests.

Three Alistair Law tallies in the first 30 minutes had the Comets up 3-0 before Christian Parker (Urbana, Ohio/West Liberty) broke the ice in minute 40 thanks to an assist from fellow sophomores Trent Mast (Southington, Ohio/Cardinal) and Patrick Spillman (Anderson, IN/Frankton). Freshman Zachary Braun (Tipp City, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) collected Mast's corner kick and found Spillman with less than a minute until halftime, making it a one-goal deficit (3-2).

The visitors put it away with two goals in the final eight minutes, including the fourth and fifth goals of the day for Law.

Olivet fired 28 shots, compared to 12 for the Beavers. The Comets forced one more corner kick (6-5), while both teams committed nine fouls. Freshman keeper Hunter Fleck (North Baltimore, Ohio/Van Buren) picked up nine saves in his first start.

The Beavers are at home again on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when they welcome Ohio Christian for a 3:30 p.m. matchup at the Sears Complex.
