NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team traveled to Manchester University on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, for a matchup against the Spartans. The Beavers dropped a 2-0 decision to the home team. Bluffton fell to 6-12 (1-7 HCAC), while Manchester improved to 8-9-1 (5-3 HCAC).
Just over eight minutes into the match, Manchester's Nick Surber netted a shot to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. Another Spartan goal from Shemar Clarke would give the home team a 2-0 lead going into the half and eventually the victory.
Sophomore Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) led the Beaver offense with two shots, one on goal. Elijah Grieser (Wauseon/Pettisville) and Patrick Spillman (Anderson, IN/Frankton) both fired a shot for the visitors.
Manchester put up a total of 10 shots, compared to Bluffton's four. The Spartans also forced two more corner kicks (3-1) but racked up 12 more fouls (21-9). Freshman keeper Tanner Newport (Hamilton, VA/Loudoun Valley) had two saves in the loss.
The men are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they welcome Anderson University to the Dam for Senior Day. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m following the women's matchup with the Ravens at 1 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers at their final match of the season!
