James and Jones compete at Fred Wilt Invite

ANDERSON, Ind. - A handful of Bluffton track and field athletes competed at the Fred Wilt Invitational at Anderson University in the first of a pair of last chance meets on Saturday, Feb. 23.

On the women's side, junior Tori Bowen (Wapakoneta/Elida) lost a tiebreak based on number of missed attempts which cost her a victory in the pole vault. Bowen cleared 3.55 meters (11 feet, 7.75 inches).

Freshman Brandon James (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen) competed in a variety of events on the day. James placed third in the 1000 meter race with a time of 3:01.52, as well as 10th in an 18 team field in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.22 seconds. James placed seventh out of nine in the high jump with a clearance of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches) and sixth in the long jump with a best of 5.89 meters (19 feet, 4 inches). Finally, James competed in the shot put, where he placed 24th with a toss of 10.69 meters (35 feet, 1 inch).

Junior John Jones (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) also competed in the weight throw and a best toss of 12.42 meters (40 feet, 9 inches) gave him a 15th place finish in the field of 39 throwers.

The Beavers will compete in their final last chance meet this coming weekend at Ohio Northern University on Friday, Mar. 1, and Saturday, Mar. 2.
