Weather turns tide in 3-1 loss to Oberlin

September 6, 2018

BLUFFTON, Ohio - A 40-minute delay due to thunder did no favors for the Bluffton University Women's Soccer Team as Oberlin College took advantage of a slick ball to cash in with three goals in the final 31 minutes on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. The Beavers fell to 0-3 on the season, while Oberlin (1-2) secured its first victory of the year.

Freshman Julia Gibson (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) found senior Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) for her third goal of the season with just under 20 minutes to play in the first half. That 1-0 edge held up until minute 59 when a wet ball dialed up by Lucy Fredell from straightaway found the back of the net less than two minutes after play resumed. The visitors went ahead 10 minutes later and sealed it with Fredell's second tally of the match at the 88:04 mark.

Oberlin finished with a marked 46-4 advantage in total shots, including 24-3 on target. The visitors forced six more corner kicks (7-1), while both teams were whistled for three fouls. Jules Frazier (Nova, Ohio/Mapleton) piled up 21 saves in her first start of the season. Liming took all four Bluffton shots and Gibson chipped in with her second assist of the year.

Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, with a trip to Hiram College. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
