BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team welcomed Manchester University to Alumni Field on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019. The Beavers secured a 3-2 victory over the Spartans in double-overtime on a rain-soaked afternoon. Bluffton improved to 6-10-1 (3-4-1 HCAC) on the season, while Manchester fell to 1-16 (1-7 HCAC).

Just over five minutes into the match, senior Lauryn Foster-Wheeler (Sidney) took a nice feed from Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead that would hold through the half. Manchester's Maddie Shepard opened up the second stanza with a goal to tie the match at 1-1.

Bluffton answered back when Maddie Huffman (Maineville/Little Miami) netted a feed from Julia Gibson (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) to give the Beavers a 2-1 advantage. The game would be sent into overtime when Manchester's Jessica Hudnall secured a goal to tie the game at 2-2.

A strong presence by both defenses left the first overtime scoreless. Just 44 seconds into the second extra session, Huffman found Gibson who sent the ball into the back of the net for a 3-2 home-team victory!

Manchester fired a total of 22 shots with Bluffton putting up 13. The Spartans forced two more corner kicks (7-5) but were whistled for four more fouls (10-6). Beaver keepers Sienna Sullivan (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) and Jules Frazier (Nova/Mapleton) secured eight and three saves, respectively, in the victory.

The women are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they welcome Anderson University for the final match of the season. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m followed by the men at 3:30 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers on Senior Day at the Sears Complex!
