Beavers bounce back with sweep at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team had no time to wallow following its first Heartland Conference loss of the season on Sunday, traveling to Anderson University for a matchup with the Ravens on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018. Bluffton worked overtime in the lidlifter, posting a 30-28 victory, before completing the sweep with convincing 25-15 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three.

Bluffton survived the opener thanks to three Anderson service errors after the set was tied 24-24. Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) and Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) served the Beavers to an easy victory in set two, both ripping off five straight points at the line as the visitors turned an 11-9 lead into a 24-13 spread in a hurry. Freshman Brooke Kleman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) continued the trend with five striaght winners at the service line to kick off the clincher as Bluffton cruised in with a 25-11 shellacking in set three.

With her third pickup of the night, Rohrbach became the second Beaver to eclipse 1,000 career digs this season following in the footsteps of fellow senior Erin Weisgarber! She just missed double figures with eight digs.

Kleman topped the Bluffton defense with 13 digs, while Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) chipped in with 11. Weisgarber continued her march toward the all-time assists mark with 36 helpers in the three-set victory. Courtney Zimpfer (Jackson Center) and Wesigarber added seven digs apiece.

Martini was too much for the Ravens, slamming home 15 kills on just 28 swings for a .393 hitting percentage. Fellow sophomores Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) and Jessica Lovell (Grove City) went for eight kills apiece, while Weisgarber helped the cause with seven winners. Rohrbach and Kleman rifled four and three aces, respectively.

The Beavers return to Indiana on Friday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Franklin College for another HCAC road clash with the Grizzlies. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
