Earlham sweeps Beavers in regular season finale

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team fell at Earlham College in straight sets on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. Bluffton dipped to 13-14 overall and 5-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham improved to 19-11 and 6-3 in the HCAC.

In the first two sets, the Beavers struggled to get out of long runs. The third set saw three lead changes and 14 tie scores before Earlham capped off the sweep with a 4-1 spurt.

Senior Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) couldn't be stopped at the net, ending with 12 kills and only three errors for a hefty .474 hitting percentage. Junior Carley Lester (Chesapeake) played in all three sets and had no errors with seven kills while hitting at a .368 clip. Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) helped with seven kills while fellow outside Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) added six winners.

Brooke Kleman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) tallied 16 digs while Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) came up with 11. Weisgarber handed out 32 assists in the regular-season finale.

Bluffton fell to the fourth seed with a 5-4 record in the HCAC. The Beavers will host the winner of Sunday's Hanover-Manchester contest on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Check the Bluffton University Volleyball Webpage for updates.
