Bluffton spikers down Wisconsin-Lutheran in season opener

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Hope College on Friday, Aug. 30 and came away with a 3-1 season-opening win over Wisconsin-Lutheran in DeVos Fieldhouse. After a pair of 25-23 wins to open the match, Bluffton dropped a 25-14 decision before capping the victory 25-22.

Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) was the difference maker with a whopping 17 kills against just four errors for a .419 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) was also on point with 14 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. ALso topping doouble digits was senior Carley Lester (Chesapeake) who rammed home 11 kills of her own.

Freshman Elle Price (Findlay) doled out 30 assists in her first collegiate match, while sophomore Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) was back doing her thing with 18 pickups. Sophomore Kia Rainey (Adrian, MI/Madison) just missed double figures with nine digs.

The Beavers will be right back in action on Saturday, Aug. 31, when they take on national power and #21-ranked Hope College. The first serve is slated for 11 a.m. with a 1:30 p.m. meeting against Wartburg to follow.
