Bluffton snaps 6-match skid with 3-1 win over Marietta

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled back to Heidelberg University on Saturday, Sept. 28, for day two of the No One Fights Alone Invitational. The Beavers dropped the first match of the day to host Heidelberg University 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20). Bluffton was able to hold off Marietta in four sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21) to secure their third victory of the season. The Beavers now stand at 3-15 following the weekend at Heidelberg.

Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) was the voice of the offense against the Student Princes as she hammered down seven kills for the visitors. Fellow junior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) and senior Carley Lester (Chesapeake) tallied six and five winners, respectively. Sophomore Maddie White (Ashland) tied her career high with 20 assists. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the Bluffton defense with 10 digs.

Bower powered the offense against Marietta, knocking down 14 kills. Heydinger chipped in six winners for the Beavers. White was on fire as she crushed her career high, dishing out 32 helpers and also slamming home six kills. Kleman and Bower led the defense with 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Sophomore Cassidy Posey (Paulding) was in on a career-best six blocks against the Pioneers.

The women will be back at Copeland Court on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. when they welcome Wilmington College. The Beavers then kick off Heartland Conference play with a trip to Earlham College on Saturday, Oct. 5, for a noon matchup against the Quakers. Go Beavers!
