Beavers drop exhibition at Division I Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's basketball team made the short trip up Interstate 75 for an exhibition with Division I Bowling Green State University on a rainy Thursday, Nov. 1. It marked the first meeting with the Falcons since a regular-season matchup on December 8, 2004. The MAC school posted an 86-50 victory in the Stroh Center.

A smooth triple from senior Justis Dowdy (Van Wert/Lincolnview) pulled Bluffton within eight (20-12) at the 9:33 mark of the first half. Senior Andrew Renner (Cairo/Bath) kept it at eight (23-15) when his trifecta tickled the twine two minutes later. Following Renner's three-ball, the BG length began to take over as the Falcons used a 20-4 spurt over the final seven minutes of the half to open up a commanding 43-19 spread.

Long distance makes by newcomers Jameel Cosby (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) and Brevin Dye (Bedford Heights/Trinity) made the score 61-39 midway through the final period, but the Falcons were too much as Bowling Green finished off its 86-50 victory thanks to 30-of-40 shooting from the charity stripe for the night.

Renner led a Bluffton contingent that was unfazed by the big boys with 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Dowdy and Dezman Brown (Elyria) were both in double figures with 10 points apiece. Dowdy went 4-of-5 from the field, including 2-for-3 on triples. Sophomore Aaron Rich (Greenville) pulled down six rebounds.

Bluffton will kick off the 2018-19 campaign on Friday, Nov. 16, when the Beavers travel to Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. They tip with Chatham College at 5 p.m. before matching up with Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
