Defiance holds off Bluffton in 1-0 shutout

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes but a Defiance tally midway through the first period was the lone score in a 1-0 Yellow Jacket victory on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Bluffton fell to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Defiance imporved to 5-6 with a spotless 2-0 mark in the HCAC.

Igor Malaquias (Bethlehem, Penn./Northampton CC) led the Beaver attack with four shots, while Christian Parker (Urbana, Ohio/West Liberty) and Jacob Kiger (Groveport, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) checked in wit two apiece. Freshman keeper Hunter Fleck (North Baltimore, Ohio/Van Buren) finished with four saves for the Beavers.

The home team put up three more shots (16-13) than the Beavers, including a 6-4 edge on frame. Defiance was whistled for seven more fouls (15-8) and the Jackets forced 10 of the 12 corner kicks.

Bluffton returns to the Sears Complex for a Saturday, Oct. 6 date with Franklin College. Kickoff with the Grizzlies is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's matchup with Franklin. Come out and watch your Beavers!
