Beavers laying the groundwork with increased depth and talent

With year one under his belt, Head Coach Sean Elvert has worked tirelessly to bolster the men's soccer roster with 21 recruits when the Beavers hit the pitch in 2019. Elvert took over one year after a two-year stint at Bluffton as a graduate assistant and his knowledge of the soccer landscape in Ohio has paid instant dividends for the Beavers. Bluffton showed tremendous growth and grit in 2018 despite finishing with a 2-16 mark as a youthful squad with no seniors and just one junior dropped seven one-goal decisions.

A core group of 11 juniors return alongside senior Igor Malaquias (Bethlehem, Penn./Northampton CC), brother of former assistant David Malaquias, as the experience level has increased exponentially heading into the 2019 campaign. Bluffton returns leading scorer Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) who found the back of the net seven times as a freshman, the most goals by a Beaver since 2008. Juniors Trent Mast (Southington/Cardinal) and Patrick Spillman (Anderson, IN/Frankton) paced the Beavers with three assists apiece last season. Taynor and Timothy Murphy (Chesterfield, Twp., MI/L'Anse Creuse) were both All-Heartland Conference selections in 2018.

After a season-opening trip to Olivet on Friday, August 30, the Beavers welcome Great Lakes Christian, D'Youville and Shawnee State for a rare week of three home matches in four days from Sept 4-7. Heartland Conference action kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 5, when perennial-power Rose-Hulman comes to town. Rival Defiance College is here four days later when Bluffton does battle with the Yellow Jackets. The Beavers cap off the 2019 slate with Anderson University making the trip to Bluffton on Saturday, Nov. 2.
