Logan Wells is entering his second year as head cross country and assistant track and field coach at Bluffton University. In his inaugural season, he led the women’s cross country team to a 4th place finish at the HCAC Championships despite fielding a team of only seven runners. Two of these athletes, Alexis Cash (7th) and Bailie Barrington (11th), were named First-Team All-HCAC for their efforts. Meanwhile, the men’s team placed 6th overall, and both genders were recognized by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as Academic All-American for the second straight year.

On the track, Wells has coached his distance squad to historical success, including eight different school records across multiple events. In 2019, he guided Jennifer Matteson to her second consecutive conference title in the 10,000m run and also placed others in podium finishes. All told, his athletes have garnered seven individual all-conference honors while setting many personal bests during his tenure.

Wells came to Bluffton in January of 2019 after two years of collegiate coaching experience at Otterbein University and his alma mater of Hanover College. As an assistant coach, Wells worked closely with his colleagues to coordinate practices, recruit athletes and manage on-campus events. He also gained considerable knowledge in hosting events while assisting Hanover College during the NCAA DIII Cross Country National Championships in 2013, as well as through coordinating races with Columbus Running Company in Columbus, Ohio.

He holds an endurance specialist certification from the USTFCCCA and is ranked 5th all-time in Hanover school history over the 8-kilometer distance. He has trained and raced with the CRC (Columbus Running Company) Elite team from 2015-18 and owns a personal best in the marathon distance of 2:26:18. He competed in the 2016 USATF half-marathon championships.
