Muskingum routs Bluffton 16-2

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team struggled to muster any offense in a 16-2 loss to Ohio-rival Muskingum University on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Bluffton dipped to 1-6 on the season, while the Fighting Muskies upped their mark to 5-2.

Dylan Gray (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) launched his first career homer leading off the second and Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) doubled home Grant Hovest (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) in the fifth but that was the only scoring for Bluffton on Thursday afternoon.

The home team on the scoreboard put up four runs in the third and three more in the fourth as the Muskies built an 8-2 advantage heading to the eighth inning. Three walks and two hit batters to open the bottom of the frame paved the way for eight more runs as Muskingum walked away with a 16-2 victory over the Beavers.

Hovest led the visitors with two hits. Freshman Wyatt Groves (Marengo/Highland) took the loss after allowing seven runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Seth Evans (Ada/OSU-Lima) tossed a shutout seventh for Bluffton.

The Beavers are back in action on Friday, March 11, at noon when they have a rematch with Alvernia College at PDC Field 1.
