Bluffton shuts down Olivet in 2-1 victory

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University baseball team welcomed Olivet College to Memorial Field on March 30 for a windy Wednesday afternoon matchup. The Beavers secured a 2-1 victory over the Comets. Bluffton improved to 6-9 on the season while Olivet fell to 5-9.

The Beavers put a tally on the board when a Dylan Gray double (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) plated Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) in the bottom of the third. A wild pitch from the Comets in the sixth would allow Gray to sneak home and secure the Beaver victory.

Starting on the mound for Bluffton and notching his second victory was Jacob Boelkens (Millbury/Lake). The junior righty improved to 2-0 with his seven innings of one-run ball. Garrett O'Reilly (Galena/Orange) took a turn on the hill in the eighth before Seth Evans (Ada/OSU-Lima) picked up his third save following a scoreless ninth.

Leading the Beaver offense was Gray who went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Towell was also hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Bluffton will be back in action for the Heartland Conference opener on Saturday, April 2, when the Beavers travel to Bishop Chatard HS in Indianapolis, IN, for a double-header against the Franklin College Grizzlies. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Go Beavers!
