Ohio Northern holds off Bluffton for 6-4 win

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision at Ohio Northern on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. The Beavers saw their five-game winning streak snapped, falling to 11-8 on the season.

Trailing 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Bluffton got on the board when Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) raced home following a wild pitch.

A Polar Bear tally in the bottom of the fourth and a two-run homer in the sixth pushed ONU's lead to 6-1.

Freshman Ayden Spriggs (North Lewisburg/Triad) was a one-man wrecking crew over the final three innings, but it wasn't enough as the Polar Bears evened the season series with a 6-4 victory. Spriggs launched a two-run shot in the seventh and a solo bomb in the ninth for his first and second collegiate homers.

Freshman Brody Symsick (Galion) dropped his first decision after allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work. Darius Boeke (Sidney) and Sean Brock (Wauseon) combined for 2.1 scoreless innings to close the game.

Spriggs went 2-of-3 with two homers and three RBI.

Bluffton will welcome Earlham College for a three-game Heartland Conference set starting Friday, April 7. The series lidlifter is slated for 4 p.m. with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
