Bluffton rolls through Olivet 4-1

OLIVET, Mich. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored three first half goals on the way to a convincing 4-1 victory at Olivet on Sunday, Sept. 3. The Beavers evened up their seaon mark at 1-1, while the Comets slipped to 0-1-1.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into match. Junior Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) connected on a free kick from just outside the box and Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) drove a penalty kick into the back of the net at the 8:24 mark!

Olivet cut its deficit in half midway through the opening period, but Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University) made it 3-1 in the 37th minute. Zimmerman's second goal of the match made the final score 4-1 on a day when cards were dealt like they are in Las Vegas. Four red cards were handed out, with three going to Olivet.

Bluffton finished with a 14-10 edge in total shots, including 6-5 on frame. Zimmerman and Campos both fired three shots in the victory. Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) fended off four attempts in his first victory of the season.

The Beavers head to Heidelberg for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Student Princes on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
