Bluffton rolls to 5-3 win over UC-Clermont

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored early and often in a 5-3 win over UC-Clermont on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. Bluffton improved to 3-2, while Clermont fell to 5-3.

Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) did Jackson Clark things at the 14:21 mark when his free kick from just outside the box hit the upper right corner of the goal for a quick 1-0 Beaver lead! Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University) delivered a strike to Tarrel McRay (Kingston, Jamaica/Calaba) in minute 39 and he scorched the back of the net, putting Bluffton up 2-0.

Clermont cut its deficit in half with less than 20 seconds to play in the first half, put Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) hooked up with Campos early in period two for a 3-1 Beaver advantage. Zimmerman's penalty kick kept Bluffton in control and Joshua Tussing (Toledo/Northview) iced it when he used a feed from Aidan Smith (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) to put the home team up 5-2!

Bluffton finished with a 24-14 edge in total shots, including 12-8 on frame. Zimmerman led the Beavers with four shots. He and McRay both put three on target. Junior Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) picked up five saves while earning his third victory between the pipes.

The Beavers are on the road for a women's and men's double dipper at Muskingum University on Saturday, Sept. 16. Bluffton takes on the Fighting Muskies at 3:30 PM.
