MSJ rolls to 4-2 victory over Beavers

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph Lions rolled to a 4-2 victory over Bluffton University on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023. BLuffton fell to 5-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ moved to 2-9 and 1-2 in the conference.

Freshman Collin Scheid (Lima/Shawnee) used a feed from senior Garrett Heitkamp (Jackson Center) to knot it up at 1-1 in minute 31. The score remained deadlocked through the first 45 despite Bluffton hammering away with a 14-4 advantage in shots in half number one.

The home team caught lightning in a bottle early in the second period, finding the back of the net three times in 11 minutes. Freshman Alec Urbansky (Oberlin/Firelands) made the final score 4-2 thanks to an assist from Aaron Stearns (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) with 17 seconds remaining.

Bluffton finished with a commanding 26-11 advantage in shots, but just 9-7 on frame. The home team was whistled for six more fouls (16-10) and Bluffton finished with a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University) fired away with a team-high six shots, while Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) chipped in with four attempts.

Bluffton welcomes rival Franklin College for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at the Sears Complex on Saturday, Oct. 7, as part of a women's and men's double feature while the football team is hosting Hanover College on the east side of Salzman Stadium!
