Beavers host first-ever home swim meet

LIMA, Ohio - The Bluffton University Swimming and Diving Team hosted its first-ever home meet on Friday, Oct. 20! The dual matchup with Hiram College was on tap for all to see at the Lima YMCA.

Once the gun sounded and history was made, sophomore Grace Beck (Lima/Homeschooled) took center stage as she carved up the Terriers with three first-place finishes and three school records in the process! She swam to first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races (25.22 and 57.50), while also topping the field with a time of 34.56 in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Freshmen Savannah Fritz (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) and Havin Montague (Celina) made waves in the 50-yard backstroke, both charting top 5 times in the Bluffton record books.

Sophomore Sydney Grisier (Bryan) came up just shy of her school mark in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 37.34 and she also won the 1-meter dive with 142.55 points, less than three points off her two-week old school record set at Anderson! Fritz placed second on Friday night and her 128.30 points has the first-year Beaver 4th all-time.

The 200-yard medley relay (Montague, Beck, Grisier, Fritz) took over 2nd in the Bluffton records with a time of 2:25.12.

Making waves and breaking records on the men's side was freshman Ashton Davis (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) who glided to the top of the charts in both the 100-yard IM (1:10.72) and the 50-yard butterfly (28.07)!

Sophomore Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) came up just 5 hundredths of a second off his school record in the 50-yard freestyle (24.33), while freshman Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) was only 4 hundredths behind his school mark in the 50-yard backstroke!

Bluffton will jump right back into the pool this Friday, Oct. 27, when the Beavers head across Route 30 to Malone University in Canton. The opening event is slated for 6 p.m.
