Bluffton takes on Pioneers at Malone

CANTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University Swimming and Diving Team made the long trek to Canton across Route 30 on Friday, Oct. 27. It gave Bluffton a taste of what to expect when they head to the Malone Invitational for a three-day meet in mid-November.

Breaking his own school record in the 50-yard freestyle was sophomore Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) who took 4th with a time of 24.13. He also moved into 3rd all-time with a 2nd-place finish and time of 56.71 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Ashton Davis (Colonial Heights, VA) placed 2nd in the 200-yard IM (3rd all-time), while fellow freshman Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) finished 3rd in the 100-yard backstroke (4th all-time).

The women got it done with no fewer than four school records on Friday, led by Grace Beck (Lima/Homeschooled) who had a hand in three of them! She won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.04 and followed that with a victory and school record (56.71) in the 100-yard freestyle.

Beck led the women to a school record and 2nd-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming a 26.12 as the Beavers finished in 2:13.97.

Sophomore Sydney Grisier (Bryan), who also had a hand in the school record along with Savannah Fritz (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) and Havin Montague (Celina), established a new school record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 119.10 points.

Bluffton will travel to Heartland Conference rival Franklin College for a tri-meet with the Grizzlies and Manchester University on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m.
