Beavers cap off 2023 at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio - The Bluffton University Swimming and Diving Team finished off its 2023 slate at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023. Bluffton battled the host Yellow Jackets as well as Heidelberg University.

Freshman Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) broke his own school record in the 50 yard backstroke, placing third with a time of 30.29! Just missing the school mark in the 50 yard breaststroke, sophomore Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) placed fourth in 36.21 seconds. He also narrowly missed the 50 yard butterfly record with a time of 28.59 at Baldwin Wallace. That was also good for fourth place in a talented field.

Sophomore Grace Beck (Lima/Homeschooled) showed out with a pair of gold medals, winning the 50 yard freestyle in 26.37 and the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.93. She teamed with Havin Montague (Celina), Savannah Fritz (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) and Sydney Grisier (Bryan) on a school record in the 200 yard freestyle relay as they went 2:13.20!

Montague cracked the record book with a 17:32.13 in the 1000 yard freestyle. Grisier also got in on the record-breaking action on her own, scoring a 252.40 over 11 dives on the 1-meter board! Fritz moved to 3rd all-time with 203.85 points. They finished 1-2 in the 1-meter 11 dives and 3-4 over their first six dives. Grisier's 143.65 in the six-dives final is 2nd all-time for the Beavers.

Bluffton will be off for the holidays before a short trip to Ohio Northern where it will compete in a tri-match with the Polar Bears and Wooster on Friday, Jan. 12.
