Patton and Bruns power Bluffton men at Lima YMCA

LIMA, Ohio - The Bluffton University swimming and diving team capped off a busy weekend with a 2nd place finish at the Lima YMCA on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.

Sophomore Riley Bruns (Maria Stein/Marion Local) outclassed the 50-yard field, taking home the gold medal with a time of 25.17. Also showing out for the men was Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) who put up a pair of top 5 all-time performances in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke. His 1:06.22 in the 100 was just over a tenth of a second from his own school record, while the 2:29.02 is 3rd all-time at Bluffton.

Grace Beck (Lima/Homeschooled) made it two victories in the 50-yard freestyle, dominating the women's race with a 25.87. She also picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.52).

Bluffton ruled the diving competition with Sydney Grisier (Bryan) and Savannah Fritz (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) going 1-2 in both the 6 dives portion of the 1-meter dive, along with the 11-dives on Saturday. Grisier's 151.95 was 2nd all-time to her school record (155.00) set less than 24 hours before at Ohio Northern! She finished with a 265.95 for the 11 dives, breaking her school mark by over 13 points! Fritz moved to 4th all-time for 11 dives with a score of 213.80, placing 2nd behind Grisier.

The Beavers are back at Ohio Northern next Friday, Jan. 19, where they will take on Ohio Wesleyan and the host Polar Bears at 6 p.m.
