Bluffton opens HCAC Championships at RHIT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University swimmimg and diving team kicked off the HCAC Championships on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024. The women stand 7th as they trail Hanover by a mere four points heading into Friday's events.

Sophomore standout Grace Beck (Lima/Homeschooled) picked up 12 points with a 5th place finish in the 50 yard freestyle on Thursday. Her 25.15 in the prelims is 2nd all-time at Bluffton as Beck holds the top five spots in Beaver history for both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races!

Beck also played an integral part in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard medley relays. Both took 7th, earning 20 points apiece for the Beavers. The 2:07.07 put up by Beck, Sydney Grisier (Bryan), Sara Kroeger (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) and Havin Montague (Celina) shattered the school record, while the 5:54.38 in the 400 medley relay by the same cast of characters is now 2nd all-time!

Grisier stands 4th all-time in the 500 yard freestyle as she and Montague finished with times of 7:15.63 and 7:56.53, respectively. Her 11-dive score of 2:09.90 in the 1-meter event was good for 10th place and 6th all-time at Bluffton. Montague went 3:31.25 in the 200 yard IM on Thursday.

Sophomore Riley Bruns (Maria Stein) and Grant Patton (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) both got their feet wet in the 50 yard freestyle on day two of the championships. The finished 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of 24.47 and 24.56. Bruns' time places him 5th all-time at Bluffton.

The Beavers are back in the pool on Friday, Feb. 16, with prelims firing off at 10 a.m.
