Beavers run against top competition at Wilmington

October 12, 2007

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University cross country teams ran against many of the best squads in Ohio at the Wilmington Fall Classic on Friday, October 12, 2007. Despite cold and blustery conditions, the Beavers turned in strong times as the Otterbein women and nationally ranked Shawnee State men claimed team victories on what turned out to be a fast course at Wilmington.

Posting the Beavers' best finish of the afternoon was senior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) who paced Bluffton with an outstanding time of 19:46.28, her season-best, and 11th place in the women's race. The next finisher for the Beavers was freshman ARIANA FRANGOS (Hudson/Twinsburg). She crossed the line in 75th place with a time of 21:42.38. Senior BREE FETTERMAN (North Royalton/Padua) and sophomore SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) were separated by less than 10 seconds as they finished in 22:36.45 and 22:45.37, respectively. Rounding out the placers on the women's side was sophomore BROOKE HABRUN (Magnolia/Sandy Valley).

BRIAN TIMPE (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York), a freshman who has shown consistent improvement throughout the year, led the Beavers with his 88th place finish in 29:15.42. Senior HILLARY SHILOSIO (Eldoret, Kenya) finished the course in 29:54.60 for 102nd place. Less than 30 seconds behind Shilosio was senior PETE HUSTED (Carrollton/Carrollton) who ran a solid race, finishing in 30:21.59. A pack of four Beavers was separated by a little more than a minute as MIKE KOCH (Liberty Center/Liberty Center), TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer), BEN ALTHAUS (Delhi, NY/Delhi) and BEN SIEBERT (Celina/Celina) all crossed the line with times between 31:46.82 and 33 minutes.

Bluffton will be off next week before traveling to Hanover College for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27.
