Bluffton women place 7th at HCAC meet

HANOVER, Ind. - The Bluffton University cross country teams competed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Hanover on October 27, 2007. Anderson again claimed the top spots for both the men and the women. The Ravens' men's squad placed first for the ninth consecutive season while the women won for the sixth straight year.

Senior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) led the Bluffton women at the conference championships despite the fierce wind and cold temperatures. She placed 10th on the women's side, earning All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors, with a time of 24:24. Freshman ARIANA FRANGOS (Hudson/Twinsburg) was the next Bluffton finisher in the contest as she crossed the line less than 2 minutes later, coming in 33rd place with a time of 26:02. Sophomore runners SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) and BROOKE HABRUN (Magnolia/Sandy Valley) put together times of 28:24 and 29:55, respectively. Freshman AMY TRACY (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) rounded out the scorers for Bluffton with a time of 33:08. The women's team placed seventh out of nine teams at the meet.

Senior HILLARY SHILOSIO (Eldoret, Kenya) paced the Bluffton men's team and finished the course 62nd with a time of 30:29. Freshman BRIAN TIMPE (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York) was close behind Shilosio and finished only 22 seconds off the Bluffton leader's pace (30:51). Senior PETE HUSTED (Carrollton/Carrollton) followed Timpe by a little over a minute, completing the course in 31:54. BEN ALTHAUS (Delhi, NY/Delhi), and TYLER FAIRCHILD (Toledo/Whitmer) came in neck and neck across the finish line. Althaus placed 90th (33:15) and Fairchild crossed the line 91st (33:35). MIKE KOCH (Liberty Center/Liberty Center) and BEN SIEBERT(Celina/Celina) finished the meet in 34:12 and 34:24, respectively. The men's team placed eighth out of nine squads at the HCAC Championships.

Bluffton will be off next week before traveling to Calvin College for the NCAA Regionals at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th.
