Bluffton women take eighth in HCAC Championships

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University cross country teams competed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship meet hosted by the College of Moun. St. Joseph on Saturday, October 31, 2009.

Sophomore HEATHER SMITH (Elkhart, IN/Concord) had the best 6k time for the Bluffton women, who placed eighth out of nine squads, as she came in 28th place with a time of 26:41. Rounding out the Bluffton squad was ALISON JANZEN (Whitewater, KS/Remington) with a time of 27:29, senior SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) placed 55th with a time of 28:35, KATY HEFFNER (Troy) took 57th with a time of 28:42, and KAITLYN KELLY(Middlefield/Cardinal) who placed 58th with a time of 28:51.
 
For the men, ANDY CHAFFEE (Clarkston, Mich.) put together Bluffton's top performance in the 8k run, finishing in 49th place with a time of 29:50. Second for Bluffton was BEN SIEBERT(Celina) who crossed the line at 32:10 for 73rd place. The other Bluffton men's participants included JEREMY KIDDER (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) who finished in 33:42 for a 76th place, and KEVIN HICKMAN (Centerburg) who crossed the finish line at 34:04 for 79th place.

Bluffton's final competition of 2009 will be the NCAA Regional Meet at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, November 14. The race is slated to start at 11 a.m.
