After five seasons and 87 wins, Bluffton College head softball coach Ty Cook announced her resignation late last week and on Monday was named the head softball coach at Guilford College, an NCAA Division III institution in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In 1999, Cook's first season at Bluffton, she guided the Beavers to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and was named the HCAC coach-of-the-year. She led Bluffton to the school's first-ever back-to-back 20-win season in 1999 and 2000 and ends her tenure at Bluffton with an HCAC record of 38-27-1 (.583) and an overall record of 87-96-1. Her 87 victories rank second on the school's all-time wins list.

Cook takes over a Guilford squad that was coached in 2003 by interim co-head coaches J.J. Edwards and Barb Bausch, who led the Quakers to a 12-19 overall record and a berth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament in the school's first season of varsity softball since 1990.

Cook, who is a 1992 graduate of the University of Charleston (WV), was an assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation at Bluffton and served on the 2003 NCAA Division III Central Region Advisory Committee. She received a master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Kansas in 1994 and is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Bluffton finished second in the HCAC regular season standings in three of Cook's five seasons and finished third one season, as well.
