Beavers shutout Wittenberg twice in non-conference action

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team (10-4) shutout Wittenberg University (3-13) twice on March 30. The Beavers won the first game 2-0 and the nightcap 2-0.

In game one Bluffton went up on the boards first when senior MANDY SNIDER(Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) scored off of an error in the sixth to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Freshman SARAH NUSBAUM (Sherwood/Fairview) posted Bluffton's last run in the top of the seventh for the final of 2-0. Snider led the team offensively in the first game with two hits.

Junior SARAH BETTS (Bryan/Bryan) threw the complete game for the win. Betts posted nine strikeouts and walked one to improve her record to 6-4 on the mound.

Sophomore CARRIE WEISBECKER (Okeana/Ross) scored the first run in game two off of a double by senior ALLISON LANGE (Archbold/Archbold). Weisbecker also scored the Beavers second run in the top of the fourth as she led the team in the game with two runs, two hits and a single RBI. The Beavers won the finale 2-0.

Freshman TONYA DEAN (Kettering/Fairmount) pitched the win in game two to take her record to 4-0 on the mound. Dean struck out one, walked one batter and allowed only four hits.

The Bluffton University softball team will be back in action this upcoming Saturday, April 2, when they host Transylvania for their Heartland Conference opener. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
