Beavers down Buffalo State and Thiel

MEADVILLE, Penn. - The Beaver volleyball team ventured to the hills of Pennsylvania on Friday to compete in the Gator Invite, hosted by Allegheny College on Sept. 13, 2013. In the opener, Bluffton took on Buffalo State College and defeated the Bengals 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22).

Adrienne Shepard (Arlington) and Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) pounded 11 kills each to lead the way. Brooke Ruffer (Stryker) set the table with 38 assists and she added 16 digs. Senior libero Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) netted 25 digs, while senior Hailey Phillips (Malinta/Patrick Henry) racked up 14 digs of her own. Brown and MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) stopped three and two Bengal attacks at the net for the Beaver front line. Marissa Krier (Massillon/Central Christian) served tough and provided two winners for the Beavers.

In the nightcap, the Beavers defeated the Thiel College Tomcats in four sets (25-21, 25-14, 27-29, 25-17). The Beavers were led offensively by Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) and Brown with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Ruffer quarterbacked the offense with 43 assists and added 12 digs. Defensively, the Beavers were led by Krohn with 30 digs, followed by Lauren Weisgarber's (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) 20 pickups.

The two victories pushed the Beavers to 4-6 overall on the season. Bluffton returns to the court tomorrow to face the host Allegheny College Alligators at 10 AM before playing MIAA foe Albion College at noon.
