Bluffton drops tri-match to Earlham and Wooster

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team had Earlham College on the ropes in the lidlifter and it went five sets with Wooster on Saturday, Oct. 28, but the Beavers came up just short in both matches, falling to 5-23 overall and 0-7 in the Heartland Conference.

Senior Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) and sophomore Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) led the offense with nine and eight hammers, respectively. Junior Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) followed with seven kills, while freshman Chloe Sample (Springfield/Catholic Central) chimed in with six winners. Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) dished out 27 assists against the Quakers.

Junior Kaylei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and freshman Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) fired two aces apiece in the Saturday lidlifter. Chloei Barnett was in on three blocks and sophomore Emma Organ (Lambertville, Mich./St. Ursula) picked up a match-high 20 digs for the Beavers.

Leading the Beavers with 12 spikes in match two was Sample who drove home 12 kills with a .360 hitting percentage. Woods and Barnett were both in double figures with 11 kills apiece. Sophomore Bekah Pack (Lexington) was on fire with seven kills against just one error for a blazing .600 hitting percentage!

Lawhorn rifled six of Bluffton's 16 aces and Organ got it done with three of her own. Fluharty doled out 36 assists and helped the cause with four kills. Organ and Fluharty stuffed the stat sheet with 16 and 10 digs, respectively. Kaylei Barnett and Lawhorn just missed double digits with nine digs apiece.

Bluffton will cap off its home slate with Senior Night against long-time rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023. The first serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. in the Sommer Center.
