Rose caps season sweep of Beavers

Rose caps season sweep of Beavers

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University baseball team was unable to ride its momentum from Thursday night as Rose-Hulman capped a series sweep with a pair of victories over the visiting Beavers on Friday, April 23, 2021. Bluffton fell to 12-18 with its 19th and 20th straight losses to the Engineers, while RHIT improved to 14-10 on the season.

Reid Ruhl (Hamilton) singled home fellow senior Jaxon Rogan (Marysville) in the seventh inning, but the horse was already out of the barn as Rose plated seven runs during the first three innings and cruised to an 11-1 victory.

Senior Garrett O'Reilly (Galena/Orange) fell to 2-4 after allowing seven runs on 11 hits in just three innings of work. Spencer Garrison (West Salem/Northwestern) gave the Beavers three shutout innings of relief before Rose cashed in with a couple runs in the seventh to end it in mercy fashion.

A pair of Jacob Latkofsky (Temperance, Mich./Ida) RBI singles in innings three and six help the Beavers knot game two 4-4, but a five-run seventh was the difference as the Engineers made it four victories over the Beavers this season.

Latkofsky, Rogan and Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) all smacked two hits in the series finale. Rogan and Latkofsky both finished with four hits on Friday night. Latkofsky drove in two runs, while freshman Kenny Schneider (Sunbury/Big Walnut) scored twice.

Seth Altman (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) gave up four runs in four innings but he did not factor in the decision. Jacob Daulton (Batavia) fell to 0-4 after surrendering three runs on three hits in 2+ innings of work. Sam Meek needed just seven pitches for the final three outs, but Bluffton came up on the wrong end of a 9-4 decision in game two.

An Anderson squad that was in Bluffton on Thursday afternoon will be back at Memorial Field for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 25. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
