FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Bluffton University baseball team started off their spring games in the Sunshine State with a tough 4-0 loss to Thiel College on Sunday, March 6. The Tomcats won their season lidlifter, while the Beavers fell to 0-2.
After three scoreless frames to open the game, a sacrifice bunt for the Tomcats put them on the board. Another hit in the sixth added up to a second run (2-0) for Thiel. The Tomcats capped off the shutout when two bunts in the 9th plated two more runners for a final score of 4-0.
The home team on the scoreboard struggled at the plate, going just 4-of-31. Three Beavers saw the mound with Carson Curnutte (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) taking the loss after six innings and three strikeouts. Andrew Collinsworth (Westerville/Westerville South) put in two innings of work with three strikeouts before Eddie Budinski (Louisville) finished out the final inning with one punchout.
The Beavers are back in action on Monday, March 7, in Fort Myers when they face Augustana at 9 a.m. followed by Plymouth State at noon. Go Beavers!
