Beavers walk off with 4-3 win over Rockford

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team had a quick turnaround following Sunday's losses and the Beavers put those games behind them with a 4-3 victory over Rockford on Monday, March 4. Bluffton improved to 1-2, while the Regents slipped to 2-5 on the season.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, senior Ezra Deitering singled (Ottawa-Glandorf/Miller City) to open the frame. Following a walk and pickoff that moved Deitering to third, Tyler Fuller (Lewis Center/Orange) laced an RBI base knock. A Matthew Mitchell (Amelia/McNicholas) single and intentional walk to Brandon North (Hilliard/Bradley) loaded the bases for Evan Houseman (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) who did the rest with a walkoff hit for the 4-3 victory!

A Houseman run in the fifth knotted it at 1-1 and Justin Maurer's (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) RBI single in the 7th pulled Bluffton within a run, setting the stage for Houseman's heroics in the 9th inning.

Deitering, Mitchell and Houseman all rapped two hits for the victors. Maurer drew three passes on Monday morning.

Freshman Riley Reyna (Wellington) allowed just one unearned runs over five innings in his first collegiate start! Sophomore Brody Symsick (Galion) worked two scoreless frames for his first victory. Reyna struck out three and Symsick added one punchout.

Bluffton will head to Port Charlotte for an 11 a.m. meeting with Ohio Athletic Conference member Heidelberg University on Tuesday, March 5.
