FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Bluffton University baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision to Rhode Island College on Friday, March 8, 2024. The Beavers slipped to 2-5 on the season while the Anchormen improved to 1-0.

Seven unanswered runs through the first five innings gave Rhode Island a commanding 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Ayden Spriggs (North Lewisburg/Triad) smashed a homer over the left field fence for two RBI, cutting the Beaver deficit to five (7-2). A Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) double in the bottom of the sixth saw Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) score, but it wouldn't be enough as the Anchormen capped off their 8-3 victory.

Baumgartner, Towell and Spriggs all tallied one hit in the loss. Wyatt Groves (Marengo/Highland) started on the mound and picked up his first loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. Senior Sean Brock (Wauseon) tossed two scoreless frames in relief, finishing with three strikeouts.

The Beavers wrap up their spring break trip on Saturday, March 9, when they face off against Baruch at 12 p.m. and then Scranton at 3 p.m. Go Beavers!
