BLUFFTON, Ohio - The #2 nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets from Baldwin Wallace notched a 15-7 victory over Bluffton on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. The Beavers fell to 6-12, while Baldwin Wallace improved to 16-3.

A six-run second inning put the visitors up 7-0 as a Nick Clark grand slam was the key hit for Baldwin Wallace. An Evan Houseman (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) two-bagger drove in Justin Maurer (Springfield/Kenton Ridge), making it 7-1 heading to the third.

Matthew Mitchell (Amelia/McNicholas) and Ezra Deitering (Ottawa/Miller City) plated runs for the Beavers in innings four and five, but a six-run outburst by the Yellow Jackets in the sixth made the score 15-3.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, pinch hitter Brody Hammersley (Coshocton) laced a two-run single down the left field line, scoring Deitering and Ethan Moore (Bellefontaine). Kenny Schneider (Sunbury/Big Walnut) lifted a sacrifice fly that picked up Hammersley and Ayden Spriggs (North Lewisburg/Triad) trotted home following a Tyler Fuller (Lewis Center/Orange) two-bagger.

Deitering, Mitchell and Fuller all tallied two hits on Wednesday. Maurer scored twice and Hammersley drove in two runs.

Senior Seth Altman (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) fell to 0-2 after surrendering seven runs on five hits in two innings of work. Grant Hovest (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) worked two scoreless frames of relief, firing three strikeouts in his eight batters.

Bluffton is back at Memorial Field for the start of a three-game set with rival Defiance College on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. Game one of the twin-bill is slated for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
