Beavers seal comeback in 26-24 win over Franklin

October 27, 2001

Bluffton College junior quarterback Brad Moore's one-yard touchdown run with 1:28 left in the game gave the Beavers a dramatic 26-24 come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon on Parent's Day in Salzman Stadium. Bluffton improves to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference.

Bluffton took a 20-9 lead at halftime, but two Franklin touchdowns in the fourth quarter put the Grizzlies on top 24-20 with 7:07 left in the game. Moore then engineered a 17 play, 73 yard drive to score the winning touchdown on an option play.

Moore passed for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the game, with senior Jon Spradling on the receiving end of six of those passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Jim Dwenger caught four passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

Sophomore Pat Craun led the defense with 10 tackles and returned an interception 17 yards. Senior Jeff Company collected nine tackles and returned an interception 48 yards, while junior Cam Staley picked off a third Grizzly pass, this one on a desperation bomb on the final play of the game. Senior Ben Schwab recovered two fumbles in the game, the second of which ended a Franklin drive following Bluffton's go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Franklin, who came into the game with a perfect 2-0 record on the road this season, falls to 2-6 overall and 1-3 on the season.
