Verizon Nominations

Four football players from Bluffton College have been nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America Team. Juniors Brad Moore, Cam Staley, Brian Steiner, and sophomore Jim Dwenger represent BC on ballots being voted on by college sports information directors across the country.

Verizon sponsors Academic All-America Teams in two fall sports, football and volleyball, and accepts nominations on behalf of athletes who have met high academic requirements along with being varsity contributors to their respective teams.

Junior Brad Moore is a communication major from Norwalk, Ohio, and carries a 3.34 GPA in Communication. He is one of the leading quarterbacks in the Heartland Conference in passing efficiency and rushing yards this season and was a first team All-HCAC selection last season. In 2000, Moore passes for 2,007 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 241 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. He was named d3football.com's national quarterback of the week once last year and was the HCAC's offence player of the week once this year. He is a resident advisor and is on the steering committee of the BC Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

 

Junior Cam Staley is a criminal justice major from Lima, Ohio with a minor in communication and a 3.58 GPA. Despite playing with a broken hand for most of the season, Cam has been a leader in the BC defensive backfield. He ranks seventh on the team in tackles with 37 and has forced one fumble.

 

Junior Brian Steiner is a sport management major from Rawson, Ohio and owns a 3.57 GPA in sport management. He ranks fourth on the team in tackles with 44, including six of which are behind the line of scrimmage. Steiner also has collected two quarterback sacks this season, recovered a fumble and forced a fumble. He is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and BASIC.

 

Sophomore Jim Dwenger is a business major from Minster, Ohio. He carries a 3.94 GPA and through the first seven games this season has 16 catches for 233 yards and a team-high five touchdowns. He is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, hall government and the Investment Club.
