BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior Matt Chiles (Sidney/Sidney) has been named the National Defensive Player-of-the-Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette. Chiles was given the honor for his efforts in the Beaver's 30-0 shutout of Defiance College last Saturday.

The defensive back finished his career as he posted 11 total tackles (6 solo, 5 assist), 0.5 tackles for loss, forced one fumble and an interception. Chiles then ran the interception back 43 yards for the touchdown.

"It's great to see Matt get the recognition that his teammates have given him all season, from the national media," defensive coordinator Allen Curtiss said. "He accomplished in his final game what great memories are made of and will be sorely missed next season."

For the year Chiles accumulated 75 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, three pass break ups and five forced fumbles. He was also named Heartland Conference defensive player-of-the-week twice this season. Bluffton University finished the 2004 campaign at 5-5, 3-3 in the Heartland Conference for a fourth place finish.
