Alex Carter named HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week

October 11, 2010

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University kick returner/wide receiver Alex Carter (Troy) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams for the week ending October 10, 2010.

Carter returned a second quarter kickoff 90 yards to the house, giving the Beavers a 26-7 lead with nine minutes remaining in the half. It marks Bluffton's second football Player of the Week this season (Steve Sealscott) and the fourth time a Beaver has returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the last three seasons. Todd Trotter took home Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice last season following return touchdowns while Antwane Miller accomplished the feat in 2008. Carter also returned a punt 22 yards in the 29-27 win over Manchester.

The win over the Spartans, who went 5-2 in HCAC play a year ago, puts the Beavers at .500 for the season as they are 3-3 overall, and 2-2 in the HCAC. Bluffton's three wins are the most since 2006 when the Beavers went 3-7 on the season and the consecutive victories marks the first time that has occurred since 2004.

The Beavers will continue with HCAC action when they head to Anderson next Saturday, Oct. 16, to face the Ravens in the first of back-to-back road challenges that send Bluffton to Rose-Hulman on October 23. The contest is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
