BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior standouts Steven Sealscott (Van Wert), Russell Krouse (Huntville/Indian Lake) and Geoff Yost (North Canton/Jackson), who wrapped their Bluffton University football careers last fall, have been named to the 2012 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society.
The honor society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a grade point average of 3.2 or better during their undergraduate study. This year, 721 players from 232 colleges and universities qualified for membership-the most in the society's six-year history. Qualifications also include being a starter or significant substitute in one's final year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA or NAIA school, and meeting all mandated progress toward degree requirements.
Sealscott, a three-time All-HCAC performer who was limited by injuries during his final two seasons, is an education major with a minor in coaching. He led the Beavers in tackles his freshman year.
Krouse, a marketing major with a graphic design minor, took home his second straight All-HCAC second team award. Bluffton's left tackle, Krouse paved the way for a Beaver offense that saw four players rush for over 370 yards each. The Beavers went for 180.2 yards per game, their best rushing attack since 2005, while their 345.7 yards of total offense was the best since 2002. A four-year starter, Krouse was instrumental in Bluffton's steady improvement on offense.
Yost, a biology major who was honored as second team All-HCAC for 2011, tallied 37 tackles for the Beavers. The senior linebacker forced a conference-high four fumbles and added two TFL's. Yost finished his career with 121 tackles, including 62 of the solo variety.
"Thanks to the generosity of Jon Hanson, we have honored more than 3,000 student-athletes in the last six years," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning, "The Hampshire Honor Society allows us to showcase how much football matters in building tomorrow's leaders, and we strongly encourage every football-playing school in the country to get involved."
Jon Hanson, founder and chair of The Hampshire Companies-a real estate firm-and NFF chair from 1994-2006, provided an endowment to launch the honor society in 2007.
