Eric Sweet named HCAC Player of the Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior ERIC SWEET (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 22, 2006.

Sweet led the Beavers, who finished 1-1 for the week, with 44 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks and four assists. He hit 15-of-29 from the field (52 percent) and sank 14-of-23 from the charity stripe.

Sweet, who is only 55 points shy of 1,000, posted a double-double in Bluffton's 105-93 loss to Mount St. Joseph in Founders Hall on Wednesday, January 18. He dropped in 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the contest. He followed that with an 18 point, seven rebound performance in the Beavers' 63-61 victory at Anderson on Saturday.

He currently leads the conference in blocks per game (2.47), ranks fourth in the conference in rebounds (6.8 rpg) and is fifth in scoring (15.3 ppg).

The Beavers are currently 14-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play. They will return to action on January 25, 2006 when they host long-time rival Defiance College in their final Wednesday night home game of the 2005-06 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
