Wooster downs Bluffton 4-1

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team battled the College of Wooster for 90 minutes but the Fighting Scots netted a pair of tallies each half en route to the 4-1 victory on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Bluffton dipped to 0-8 on the season, while Wooster improved to 6-4.

Wooster broke the scoreless tie in minute 28 when CHARLIE KRUS found BENJAMIN FREIJE for his first goal of the season. The visitors made it 2-0 with less than five minutes to play in the opening stanza. Midway through the final 45 minutes, the Fighting Scots tacked on two more scores for a 4-0 lead at the 73:14 mark.

Freshman MICHAEL WHELPLEY (Sagamore Hills) made it 4-1 when he drilled Bluffton's first penalty kick of the season in minute 76.

LEVI SMITH (Bluffton) notched eight saves as Wooster outshot the home team by a 24-5 margin, including 12-2 on frame. The Fighting Scots forced eight of the 10 corner kicks in the match.

Bluffton kicks off Heartland Conference play when the Beavers travel to Earlham College on Saturday, Sept. 30. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m. in Richmond, Ind.
