Earlham pitches 3-0 shutout at Sears Complex

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Earlham College on a warm Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Bluffton fell to 1-3-1 on the season and in the conference, while Earlham improved to 2-3 overall and in the HCAC. It was a reunion for Head Coach Robert Richardson who served as an assistant at Earlham prior to his time at Emory & Henry.

Luc Cesar put the visitors up in minute nine and his second tally made it 2-0 just past the midway mark of half number one. Bluffton had chances in the first half, but the Quakers carried that 2-0 lead into the break. Cesar completed his hat trick when Ethan Getman found him in the back half. He did the rest burying goal number three in the lower left corner to seal the outcome.

Bluffton finished with two more shots than the Quakers (14-12), but the visitors put two more on frame (9-7). The home team was whistled for four more fouls (7-3). Bluffton also forced 10 of the 13 corner kicks.

Freshman Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) and sophomore Hunter Coffey (Wapakoneta) both fired three shots with all of Zimmerman's on target. Elijah Grieser (Wauseon/Pettisville) and Jacob Kiger (Groveport/St. Charles Prep) chipped in with two shots apiece. Zimmerman and fellow freshman Aaron Stearns (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) earned their first collegiate starts on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore keeper Tanner Newport (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun Valley) finished with six saves for the Beavers.

Bluffton will be back at the Sears Complex on Saturday, March 20, when the Beavers welcome Transylvania University. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's matchup with the Pioneers.
