Beavers pitch 2-0 shutout at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team limited Heidelberg to just one shot in a 2-0 shutout of the Student Princes on a cloudy Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022. Bluffton moved to 1-0-2 as Head Coach Steve Bushre picked up his first win as a Beaver! The Berg fell to 0-3-1 on the season.

After a scoreless first frame in which Bluffton piled up a 9-0 edge in total shots, Benjamin Davidson (Greenville) broke the ice thanks to an assist from Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) in minute 55. JJ Meyer (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) connected with Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) 10 minutes later for a 2-0 lead which was more than enough to cinch Bluffton's first victory of 2022.

The Beavers pounded out a 21-1 advantage in shots, including 10-1 on frame. Davidson, Taynor and Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) led the way with four shots each. Heidelberg was whistled for six more fouls (16-10), while Bluffton forced seven of eight corner kicks in the convincing victory.

Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) turned away one shot while picking up his first win and shutout of the season.

Bluffton is back on its home pitch for a 5 p.m. kickoff with Trine University on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Come out and support your Beavers!
